2023 will mark the second season of Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada in control of the offense minus quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. And it sounds as if Canada is finally feeling comfortable in adding new concepts and making changes.
The quarterbacks talked about the changes and improvements they are seeing in the offense early in OTAs and it sounds like Canada isn’t planning to re-invent the wheel but does seem to be moving forward with the offense. This is according to quarterback Mason Rudolph.
“I’m not going to say we’re revolutionizing our offense and everything is changing, but there are some new things that can make us a lot better,” Rudolph said.
The Steelers offense was all over the place last season. At times this group looked pretty solid and efficient and at other times was downright dreadful. Some of this can be attributed to a rookie quarterback and some to a struggling offensive line. But this season the team should have a much better offensive line and quarterback Kenny Pickett has grown by leaps and bounds. So at this point, it is all on Canada to put in a system that maximizes this unit’s talent.
The Steelers scoring offense was No. 26 in the NFL last season averaging only 18.8 points per game. Generating more points is Canada’s top priority and if he can’t do it with this team, his job should be in jeopardy.
