New PFF mock draft a perfect trade-down opportunity for Steelers
Mike Renner at Pro Football Focus has a new one-round mock draft out and we found it particularly interesting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But not for the reasons you might think. The Steelers are going to have some big decisions to make when they go on the clock in the 2023 NFL draft and this mock is a perfect example of how complicated things could get.
First off the pick. Former Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is a very trendy pick but being selected at No. 17 as the fourth defensive back off the board doesn’t feel like value.
But more than that, the pick after the Steelers, the Detroit Lions chose former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson Jr. Having a player the caliber of Richardson just sitting there puts the Steelers in a perfect spot to make a trade back, stockpile some picks and still land a quality player. There are multiple teams who would be more than willing move up and this would represent a much more cogent way to use the pick.
