Steelers QB Kenny Pickett has a plan to get WR Diontae Johnson going on offense

At this point, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense is only consistent in being inconsistent. This is particularly true when it comes to the passing game. Pittsburgh is working through the growing pains of rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett but he isn’t getting much help. Pittsburgh gave wide receiver Diontae Johnson a two-year contract extension worth $36.71 million. That’s WR No. 1 money but 51 receptions for 456 receiving yards and no touchdowns doesn’t exactly scream top receiver. But Pickett understands why Johnson is struggling and has ideas about how to create more opportunities. “If he’s getting doubled, it’s tough to get him the ball. They know how great of a player he is,” Pickett said. “I think if we move him around and don’t keep him in the same spot, it’s a great way to get him some opportunities.” Comments like this put it right back on the Steelers coaches. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada has taken plenty of heat this season for his playcalling and this is just another example of how he fails to understand how the offense works.
